Mt Keira to Mt Kembla

Note - Wollongong City Council needs to keep Mt Keira Road closed for safety reasons until further notice. Council has recently completed road works uphill from the archery range however ongoing monitoring has shown another section of road further uphill has experienced further subsidence. This is an optional tourist drive that you can include in your greater Grand Pacific Drive experience.

It begins with a right hand turn onto Mt. Keira road off the western end of Crown Street in Wollongong. From here you begin the windy road through the dense escarpment to the top of Mt Keira. Turn off to enjoy the spectacular Mt Keira lookout or continue the link through to Mt Kembla which is a charming old historical mining village.

Hint: Follow the Tourist Drive 11 signs.

Take in the view north and south from the magnificent Mt Keira lookout.
Relax with a coffee and a snack whilst enjoying the views at Mt Keira lookout.
Feeling energetic? Go on one of the many bushwalks of varying grades, starting from Mt Keira.
Step back in time and take in the history throughout Mt Kembla village; the location of a coal mining disaster in 1902.
Enjoy a beer with the locals at the historic Mt Kembla Hotel.
