Bass Point Reserve

Bass Point Tourist Road, Shellharbour, NSW 2529 Australia

Bass Point is a 72 hectare coastal jewel located just south of Shellharbour Village on the South Coast of NSW. The Reserve is listed on the Register of the National Estate, due to its cultural and archaeological features, as well as its significant marine environment.

Archaeological evidence from Bass Point dates Aboriginal activity in Shellharbour to at least 17,000 years ago. Take the self guided Bass Point Indigenous Cultural Walk that explains why Bass Point is one of the oldest known occupation sites along the entire Australian eastern seaboard.

There is also a memorial to the Australian servicemen who lost their lives while trying to bring stranded US sailors to shore from the US tanker Cities Service Boston as the ship ran into the rocks during a wild storm in 1943.
